Considering I rotate my foundation almost as frequently as my undergarments, I think I have a pretty good grasp on what works for me. However, as I sit here trying give my personal recommendation on the subject, I realize just how broad a topic it is. So in the interest of holding your attention and not wanting this post to be 35 pages long, I’m going to give a very general view on my foundation routine and why I use the type of foundations I do.
First, the two questions I always asking before choosing my makeup are 1) How much coverage do I want? and 2) How long do I need it last? Once I decide those two things, picking the foundation is easy.

The main reason I choose liquid is because I have really dry skin and I think liquid looks better. Generally liquid foundations are build-able, which means I can add layers to increase coverage. It allows me to mix products easier which is great for me in summer time when on an given day I can range from any of 3 different shades of brown.
On a day to day basis I prefer matte finish. I like to apply shimmer/dewiness where I want it, and I really just like how matte looks more on its own. Usually in winter when its dry, I might throw on a more dewey or luminous finish foundation like my Mary Kay or the Estee' Lauder, but I almost always set them with a powder to minimize the shine. For the foundations that are really full coverage, like Revlon Color Stay or MAC Matchmaster, I love that I can easily lighten up the coverage and feel. This is done by mixing it with my face moisturizer, or by wetting my brush before applying in order to thin out the foundation. These options and the overall versatility that I get when using liquid are, again, why I gravitate toward them.
Looking through my collection it’s hard to say which foundation I like most, so I’ll address the one I’m currently using and the ones I have repurchased, or plan to. They are: Mary Kay Liquid,
Revlon Colorstay, MAC Studio Fix, Estee’ Lauder Invisible Fluid
